To begin with, for our Best Sandwiches in Montreal 2025 challenge, we created a set of simple but solid rules to make the experience fair, honest, and fun — for both us and our viewers!
Here’s how we’re keeping the challenge real:
1️⃣ To clarify, we both order and eat: Eli and I each order a sandwich — no sharing, no splitting!
2️⃣ No advance notice: None of the sandwich shops know we’re coming. We want the full experience, just like any other customer.
3️⃣ No outside extras: We don’t add sauces, toppings, or drinks from elsewhere. We review the sandwich as it comes.
4️⃣ No sandwich left behind: We must finish our sandwiches — it’s the only way to give a proper review.
5️⃣ Consistent scoring: Every sandwich gets rated using the same system, so that we can fairly compare all 12 stops.
6️⃣ Respect the restaurant: We always follow house rules and behave like respectful guests.
7️⃣ Sandwich-focused only: Only restaurants or delis that specialize in sandwiches qualify for this list.
8️⃣ Tourist-friendly access: All spots are downtown or near a metro/public transit stop, perfect for travelers or those exploring Montreal without a car.

Our 12 Sandwich Picks Across Montreal
Montreal is packed with incredible food, and narrowing down the city’s best sandwiches is no easy task. However, after living here for over 15 years, we put together a list of 12 must-try sandwich spots that are tasty, tourist-friendly, and full of local flavor.
Each place was chosen with care — based on personal experience, local buzz, and accessibility by metro or foot.
That said, Montreal has so many amazing restaurants, so consider this a delicious starting point for your own foodie adventure!
Let’s kick things off with Stop #1 — Renzo’s Sandwich in Mile End!
Stop #1 – Renzo’s Sandwich Montreal [Ep. 1]
We kicked off our Montreal Sandwich Challenge at Renzo’s Sandwich, a brand-new Mile End spot that already had a line out the door. And honestly, it didn’t take long to see why. With mortadella, fried zucchini, and house-made sauces, Renzo’s brings big Italian flavours with a fun Montreal twist.
We rated the sandwich, talked about the hype, and even had a spicy moment (Eli + peppers = drama 🌶️).
💬 Eli’s take: “I absolutely loved the retro decor at Renzo’s! It’s a small space, but super clean and cozy. And if you’re visiting in the summer, you can grab your sandwich and enjoy it in one of the charming little parks nearby!”

Stop #2 – Pinnacle Wagyu Deli, Old Montreal [Ep. 2]
For our second stop in the Montreal Sandwich Challenge, we headed to Pinnacle Wagyu Deli — a hidden gem in the heart of the Old Port. Although it only opened in early 2025, this new spot has already made waves with its premium Wagyu beef sandwiches and elegant deli vibe.
Moreover, we were impressed not only by the flavor-packed sandwiches (yes, we each finished ours!) but also by the chic and modern decor inside. It’s cozy, clean, and stylish — making it a great place to take a break while exploring the historic neighborhood.

Stop #3 – Shnoopi, Old Montreal [Ep. 3]
or the third stop in our Montreal Sandwich Challenge, we made our way back to Old Montreal to check out a buzz-worthy spot that’s been catching everyone’s attention — Shnoopi. With a strong 4.9-star Google rating and rave reviews across platforms, we knew we had to find out what all the hype was about.
Tucked into Notre-Dame Street, Shnoopi is a Mediterranean-inspired café that combines cozy hospitality with bold, inventive sandwich flavors. It’s family-owned, with roots and recipes influenced by Egypt, Greece, Lebanon, and Italy — and you can feel the love in every bite.
We each tried a different house favorite — the shrimp sandwich and the sirloin sandwich — and while we swapped halfway through to get the full experience, a funny twist had us both reaching back for our original picks. In the end, it’s safe to say that Shnoopi truly knows how to win hearts through stomachs.
🌟 Bonus detail: Don’t let the small size fool you — the portions are generous, the bread is toasted to perfection, and the plating is beautiful. It’s not just lunch, it’s a mini food experience.

Stop #4 – Bossa at Time Out Market | Eaton Centre Montreal – Porchetta vs Milanese [Ep. 4]
Our Montreal Sandwich Challenge took us to Bossa, conveniently located inside the modern and stylish Time Out Market at Eaton Centre Montreal. For this episode, we put two Italian classics to the test — the juicy, slow-roasted Porchetta and the crispy, flavourful Milanese.
Serge loved the tender porchetta with its aromatic herbs, while meanwhile, I (Eli) couldn’t get enough of the Milanese’s golden crunch. We enjoyed our sandwiches outdoors at Phillips Square, surrounded by café tables, chairs, and parasols that gave the space a Parisian vibe — the perfect summer lunch spot in downtown Montreal.

For our fifth stop in the Montreal Sandwich Challenge, we headed to the Plateau Mont-Royal to discover Chez ta mère — a quirky little café known for its cozy vibe and mom-inspired sandwiches. Each creation is named after a different “mom,” with recipes pulling inspiration from around the globe.
We decided to try two of their standout sandwiches. Eli and I even swapped halves to compare notes, but ultimately, it was our first picks that truly won our hearts. It just goes to show how personal taste can be when it comes to food!

Stop #6 – Taglio Montreal Smoked Meat & Cowboy Sandwich [Ep. 6]
For our sixth stop in the Montreal Sandwich Challenge, we ventured to Pointe-Saint-Charles to discover Taglio — a boucherie, deli, and sandwicheria that opened in December 2024 in the historic space once home to Québec Smoked Meat. Taglio has already built a reputation for artisanal smoked meat, prepared with patience, care, and a nod to tradition.
We tried their classic smoked meat sandwich along with the daily special, the bold Cowboy Sandwich. Each bite showed off Taglio’s commitment to craft — from the long curing and smoking process to the attention to detail in every slice. It’s a spot that proves Montreal’s smoked meat culture is alive, evolving, and deliciously worth the detour.

Stop #8 – Dino’s Sandwicherie, Plateau Mont-Royal [Ep. 8]
For our eighth stop in the Montreal Sandwich Challenge, we headed to the Plateau to check out Dino’s Sandwicherie — a fresh addition to Mont-Royal Avenue that’s already winning locals over with its Italian-inspired menu. Known for quality ingredients and focaccia sandwiches baked in-house, Dino’s felt like the perfect spot to put to the test.
Inside, the vibe is cozy and modern, with a casual neighborhood energy that makes it easy to settle in. As soon as we arrived, we each tried their Chicken Stracciatella focaccia sandwich — a fresh and flavorful creation that quickly stood out among our challenge tastings. Moreover, with a menu that also features salads, desserts, coffee, and cold drinks, it’s the kind of place where you can grab a quick bite or, alternatively, linger a little longer.
What makes Dino’s special is the balance between authentic Italian flavors and a laid-back Plateau atmosphere. In fact, it’s more than just a sandwich counter — it’s a spot where the focaccia bread alone could keep you coming back, and the generous portions make it easy to share (if you can resist finishing it yourself).

Known for its laid-back charm, friendly service, and creative sandwiches, it’s a go-to spot for those exploring the Jean-Talon Market and Mile-Ex neighborhoods.
Inside, the place feels like a throwback — vintage décor, handwritten menus, and the casual vibe of a true Montréal dépanneur. Locals pop in for quick takeout, and if the weather’s nice, the patio tables outside are the perfect spot to enjoy your sandwich under the sun.
We tried two of their most talked-about options — the Chicken Seoul, a Korean-inspired creation with tangy flavors, and the Chipotle Club, a smoky, creamy classic with a punch. Both came loaded with fresh ingredients and, moreover, had the kind of messy-good layers that Montréal sandwich lovers live for.

Stop #10 – MONO Café-Bistro, Downtown Montreal [Ep. 10]
For our tenth stop in the Montreal Sandwich Challenge, we headed downtown to visit MONO Café-Bistro, a chic, modern spot on Crescent Street serving up gourmet sandwiches, organic coffee, and a cozy yet stylish vibe. Located just steps from some of the city’s top attractions, MONO is the perfect combination of urban flair and comfort food.
Inside, the café feels contemporary and warm — the kind of place where the baristas know their coffee and the kitchen takes sandwiches seriously. It’s an ideal lunch stop for both locals and visitors exploring downtown Montreal or shopping along Sainte-Catherine Street.
We each tried MONO’s signature breaded chicken sandwich, which stood out with its crispy golden coating, fresh toppings, and homemade sauce — all perfectly balanced between soft bread slices. The fries on the side were a pleasant surprise too: crispy on the outside, fluffy inside, and served with their own signature house-made dip that we couldn’t stop talking about.

For our eleventh stop in the Montreal Sandwich Challenge, we headed to the heart of downtown Montreal to visit Bella Sandwicherie, located inside the beautiful Le Cathcart Food Hall at Place Ville Marie. This modern spot is the little sister of Bossa, known for serving Italian-inspired sandwiches layered on soft, freshly baked focaccia. It’s a perfect lunch stop for anyone exploring or working downtown — especially since it’s just steps away from Montreal’s Underground City, Central Station, and the Bell Centre.
Inside, Bella offers an elegant yet relaxed vibe, blending the sophistication of its glass-roofed surroundings with the warmth of an Italian café. Moreover, the space feels bright, airy, and bustling during the weekday lunch rush, making it ideal for a quick but elevated bite.
We decided to try three of their signature creations:
🥪 Irena — Trio of Meatballs (Pork, Lamb & Beef) with Tomato Sauce and Arugula Pesto

Panino Pazzo, Little Italy Montreal – Sandwich Challenge Finale [Ep. 12]
For our final stop in the Montreal Sandwich Challenge, we headed to Little Italy — one of the city’s most authentic foodie neighbourhoods. Moreover, we visited Panino Pazzo, a family-run Italian sandwich shop serving the community for over 26 years. Just off St-Laurent, it’s the kind of local favorite where regulars are greeted by name and every panino is made with genuine pride.
Inside, the atmosphere is cozy and unpretentious, with fresh bread in the air and prosciutto sliced to order. And as luck would have it, we arrived just moments before they closed early for a catering commitment. Ultimately, this stop became one of the most memorable moments of the entire challenge.
We tasted two of their signature creations:
🥪 The Super Mario — A bold, flavour-packed classic stacked with steak, capicollo, pepperoni, provolone, and a mix of sautéed vegetables like onions, mushrooms, peppers and eggplant. Every bite was hearty, rich, and full of homemade charm.
🥪 The Siena — A beautiful minimalist creation featuring fresh prosciutto, arugula, tomatoes, and creamy burrata (or stracciatella, depending on the day) on perfectly toasted bread. Simple ingredients done exceptionally well. This sandwich caught us by surprise in the best possible way.
What truly sets Panino Pazzo apart is their attention to freshness: the bread is baked on-site, the deli meats are sliced to order, and the flavours feel straight out of Italy. It’s a Little Italy staple that effortlessly blends tradition, family warmth, and quality ingredients.

⭐ Final Thoughts – Montreal Sandwich Challenge 2025
After 12 incredible stops, 32 sandwiches, and countless conversations with local owners, one thing is crystal clear — Montreal truly knows how to make a great sandwich. From Little Italy’s family-run gems to downtown favourites and neighbourhood surprises, each spot brought its own personality, tradition, and flavour to the table.
Moreover, what started as a fun idea quickly became one of our favourite projects. Along the way, we laughed, debated, and got surprised more than once (yes… we’re still thinking about that Shnoopi sandwich-swap moment). More importantly, we discovered places we might never have visited without this challenge.
Through it all, we felt the passion behind every counter — from the bakers to the owners to the teams who take pride in creating something simple, comforting, and truly memorable between two slices of bread.
And even though Shnoopi held onto the #1 spot for 2025, so many sandwiches came close. Honestly, there wasn’t a single dull bite in the entire journey.
