Things to Note When Driving:
- Tolls: Expect tolls on the way. Use the Guru Tolls Greece calculator to estimate tolls and gas costs.

Sitting high above the archaeological site, Acrocorinth Castle provides breathtaking panoramic views of Corinth and the surrounding countryside.
This impressive fortress, perched atop a rocky hill, is not only a historical gem but also offers a rewarding hike with unforgettable views.
Unfortunately, we missed the chance to explore it in full due to its early closing time, as we arrived in the afternoon and couldn’t enter.
If you’re planning a visit, we highly recommend heading to Acrocorinth earlier in the day to allow plenty of time for the climb and to explore the castle grounds. It’s truly worth the effort for the views alone!

Corinth Canal or Canal Isthmus – Corinth, Greece
Another activity it’s really famous it’s Corinth Canal, which is a narrow 6 kilometer canal connecting the lonian and Aegean seas.

Corinth New City – Peloponnese, Greece
If you have extra time, we recommend driving through Corinth’s modern city center, known as New Corinth. Here, you’ll find a lively mix of stores, restaurants, and coffee shops, perfect for a quick stop or a leisurely stroll.
We suggest visiting The Cuppers (Facebook page), a fantastic coffee shop where we grabbed some coffee for the road and enjoyed delicious pastries. It’s a great spot to relax and refuel.
Other Things to Do in Corinth’s New City:
- Visit Eleftherios Venizelos Square: This central square is home to a striking statue of Pegasus, the legendary winged horse and symbol of New Corinth. Best Time of the Year to Visit Corinth, Greece
We visited in May and enjoyed perfect weather with clear skies and mild temperatures. For the best experience, consider visiting in spring or fall when the weather is pleasant, and crowds are lighter. Summer can be hot and crowded, especially around the ruins.
Pro Tip: Always check the weather local forecast before your visit. Even summer days can bring unexpected rain, so plan accordingly.
Ancient Corinth Day Trip: Travel Essentials
Corinth makes for an excellent day trip, especially if you’re short on time in Greece and staying in Athens or Nafplio.
Even for a day trip, preparing with some travel essentials will help ensure you get the most out of your visit to this historical site.
Remember that Corinth is steeped in ancient Greek history, with some challenging terrain. At the archaeological site, you’ll encounter uneven stone paths, sloping hills, and some ancient ruins that require sturdy footwear. The walk up to Acrocorinth Castle is a bit strenuous but well worth it for the views, so comfortable shoes and a bit of stamina will go a long way. Be mindful of the pathways, which can be slippery, especially in wet weather.
Here are some essential tips and answers to common questions:
Currency and Credit Card Protection
The currency in Corinth, as with the rest of Greece, is the Euro (€). While credit cards are widely accepted in Corinth’s restaurants and shops, it’s still a good idea to carry some cash for small purchases, especially in local markets, craft shops, or smaller establishments that may not accept cards.
Protecting your credit cards is crucial while traveling. RFID-blocking sleeves can prevent unauthorized scans and keep your information safe. After dealing with the frustration of having my card cloned while traveling in the USA, I (Eli from Discovering Destinations) highly recommend using RFID-blocking sleeves. They’re simple and affordable, and they offer peace of mind. You can find a 20-piece set on Amazon for under $10 CAD. The one in the picture is actually mine, and as you can see, it’s been used a lot—it’s already worn out!
Get your 20-piece RFID Blocking Sleeves set here: Amazon Credit Card Protector.
Travel Documents
- ID or Passport: Be sure to carry your passport or personal ID, as identification is often required for accommodation or certain purchases.
- Travel Insurance and Health Documents: Always check if travel insurance and health documents are required for emergencies or unexpected situations.
Ancient Corinth Day Trip – Packing List
The weather in Corinth can vary, especially since the area can be warmer than other mountainous regions in Greece. Here’s what to pack for a comfortable day trip:
- Clothing: Temperatures in Corinth can get quite warm, especially in the afternoon, so lightweight clothing is best. However, bring a light jacket for cooler morning or evening temperatures.
- Footwear: Comfortable walking shoes are essential for navigating the archaeological site’s uneven stone paths and climbing the hills around Acrocorinth. If you plan to explore more rugged trails, consider packing hiking shoes.
- Weather Gear: A light rain jacket is helpful, as weather can change quickly.
- Essentials: Don’t forget sun protection, including sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat, as the site offers limited shade. A reusable water bottle is also recommended to stay hydrated while exploring.
- Extras: For visits to local shops or restaurants, casual attire is perfect. A small backpack can be handy for carrying your essentials throughout the day.

By keeping these travel tips in mind, you’ll be well-prepared for an enjoyable and memorable day trip to Corinth.
