If you’re planning your trip and searching for the best Bogotá Colombia tours and day trips, welcome! We’re Eli and Serge from Discovering Destinations, and we spent 8 unforgettable days in Bogotá back in March 2025. This city surprised us in every way — with its culture, colors, food, friendly people, and endless places to explore.
Before anything else, we want to start with a special thank you to our friend and neighbor Andrea, who is originally from Bogotá. She shared so many local tips with us, including where to find the most delicious Colombian traditional food and how to explore the city safely and like a local. Her advice shaped our itinerary, and we’re excited to pass all of that on to you.
In this blog, we’re sharing our favorite tours and day trips that made our stay memorable, plus extra suggestions for walking tours, food tours, day trip ideas, and coffee experiences we truly believe are worth your time.
Let’s explore Bogotá together!

1. La Candelaria Walking Tour — A Fun & Local Way to Start Your Trip

One of the best ways to begin your adventure in Bogotá, Colombia is with a walking tour of La Candelaria, the historic center of Bogotá. We booked this experience through GetYourGuide and had a fantastic time discovering the city’s cultural heart.
Why we loved this tour
- Our guide Lizeth was warm, knowledgeable, and fun
- The architecture in La Candelaria is a fascinating mix of colonial, Art Deco, Baroque, and modern
- The street art is vibrant and full of stories
- We visited La Concordia Market for fruit tasting
- Even the heavy rain turned into a good moment (we tasted more fruits while waiting!)
Everything in the tour description was accurate, and we felt it offered great value. If you want to start your trip with a mix of culture, food, and local insight, this is the one.

2. Coffee Experiences in Bogotá — What We Did & What We Recommend

Colombia is one of the world’s best coffee producers, so it’s no surprise that coffee tours are a highlight of many Bogotá Colombia tours and day trips.
While we personally didn’t join a coffee tasting tour in Bogotá (because we had recently taken a complete coffee workshop in Brazil), this GetYourGuide experience is highly recommended and takes place in one of our favorite cafés in Bogotá.
Bogotá Coffee Tasting Tour (Great for Coffee Lovers)
What you’ll learn:
- Learn about the various steps in producing coffee
- Try edible products made with coffee
- Enjoy guided tastings with a knowledgable guide
- Guided explanation in English or Spanish
It’s a perfect introduction to specialty coffee — especially if you love cafés and want to understand why Colombian coffee is so unique.
Want to visit cafés independently?

We visited many amazing coffee shops around the city. You can find all our recommendations in our full guide here:

3. A Coffee Farm Day Trip — One of the Most Authentic Bogotá Experiences

If you want to go beyond the city and truly understand Colombian coffee culture, a coffee farm tour is a fantastic option. This is one of the most meaningful Bogotá Colombia day trips for travellers who love authentic, rural experiences.
This full-day tour takes you into the mountains near Bogotá, where you visit a small, organic, women-led coffee farm. Even locals say this is one of the most authentic coffee experiences you can have.
🌿 Why this tour is special:
- Traditional campesino breakfast
- Walk through organic coffee fields
- Learn hand-picking techniques
- Try different brewing styles
- Grind coffee with a local farmer
- Plant your own coffee tree (seasonal)
- Enjoy a homemade Colombian lunch

These two tours offer great value and perfectly reflect what Bogotá’s cuisine is all about:

5. Our Day Trip to the Salt Cathedral — A Magical Bogotá Experience

One of the most unforgettable Bogotá Colombia day trips we experienced was visiting the Salt Cathedral in Zipaquirá. This underground cathedral, carved deep inside a salt mine, is truly one-of-a-kind and absolutely worth the journey.

Our tour included:
- A knowledgeable and friendly local guide
- Comfortable transportation (with a TV onboard — we even watched Disney’s Encanto on the way back!)
- A safe and smooth ride
- Time to explore the small historic town of Zipaquirá with our guide
- Guided visit to the Salt Cathedral, including entrance tickets
- Free time to explore the cathedral at our own pace
We booked our Salt Cathedral tour through GetYourGuide, which offers several options — some include the entrance ticket, like ours, while others are cheaper but require you to purchase the ticket directly at the Salt Cathedral.

Where to Stay in Bogotá, Colombia – Travel Tip:
The main places to visit in Bogotá Colombia are around La Candelaria, the historic old town, this said Many travellers prefer staying in La Candelaria, but based on our experience, Zona T can be an even better choice. It offers great restaurants, shopping options, and feels very safe for tourists.
Both neighborhoods work well for day tours, since most tour companies pick up travelers from these central areas.
In our case, we chose a hotel a bit farther away for budget reasons. Because of that, our tour pick-up took longer:
- We were picked up first and spent about 1 hour collecting other travelers
- And we were dropped off last, which added another 1 hour to the return
It was still totally worth it, but staying closer to La Candelaria or Zona T definitely saves time.
6. Why Booking Tours in Bogotá Makes Your Trip Easier

Bogotá is huge, vibrant, and full of history — but also spread out. Booking verified Bogotá Colombia tours and day trips helps you:
- Explore safely
- Cover more places in less time
- Learn from bilingual local guides
- Get cultural context
- Discover hidden spots
- Support local tourism
- Taste food you might not find alone
During our 8-day trip, combining tours + self-guided exploring gave us the perfect balance.
