About Gytheio – Peloponnese, Greece
Gytheio is a charming coastal town in the southern Peloponnese, once serving as the main port of ancient Sparta. Today, it is known for its colorful harbor, fresh seafood tavernas, and its proximity to beautiful beaches like Mavrovouni and Selinitsa, home to nesting sea turtles.
One of Gytheio’s unique attractions is the Dimitrios Shipwreck, located on Valtaki Beach. This abandoned ship, resting on the sand since the 1980s, offers a stunning and eerie backdrop for photography. Legends surround the ship, suggesting it was abandoned under mysterious circumstances, adding a touch of mystery to its appeal.
