1. A Great Haircut in Nafplio New Town

  • Save

Waking up for another day at Tolo Beach, we had a mission: Serge needed a haircut!

Since we had seen more options for hairdressers in Nafplio, we decided to head there without an appointment, hoping we’d find a spot.

Luckily, we stumbled upon the Beauty Barber Bar by Anony MRE. After a short 15-minute wait, Serge was in the chair, and Anthy, the talented stylist, worked her magic.

The result? A fresh new look that even impressed me (Eli)! It was such a great experience that I booked an appointment for the following week. If you’re ever in need of a haircut while exploring Nafplio, we highly recommend this spot.

Extra Tips:

The staff at the salon don’t speak fluent English, but they are very friendly and communicated with us using Google Translate. Maria, an archaeologist from the region who speaks English, was also there getting her hair done and helped with translation.

The price was half of what we would pay in Montreal for excellent service.

If you are driving, the salon is located on a small street, and you might need to drive around to find a parking spot. The signs can be a bit difficult to understand, so you can also ask the salon staff for advice. That’s what we did, and they found a good spot right in front of the barber shop, which we initially thought was not allowed for parking, but it was.

Click Here to check out their official website for opening hours, as they don’t open the salon on Mondays based on our experience.

2. Bike Café: Where Vibes Meet Great Coffee

  • Save

After the haircut, we decided to explore some of Nafplio New Town’s best coffee spots, starting with Bike Café. Located on the north side of the Main Avenue, this café’s tall ceilings, cool and rustic decor, and hidden back patio gave it a unique vibe that we instantly loved.

The atmosphere inspired us to snap a few photos and videos—perfect for capturing memories of this charming spot. Bike Café also has a great menu for chocolate drinks, various beverages, and snacks.

Whether you’re in the mood for a morning pick-me-up or a cozy afternoon break, Bike Café is a must-visit in Nafplio New Town.

3. Coffee Lab: Great coffee and delicious croissants

  • Save

Next, we stumbled upon Coffee Lab, a smaller yet equally delightful café. What caught our attention was their Brazilian coffee, which we couldn’t resist sampling. The rich flavor had us hooked, so we took some back to our apartment.

The welcoming staff and tasty croissants made the experience even better.

Don’t leave Nafplio without stopping by Coffee Lab for a sip of something special.

4. Coffee Berry: Cozy Café with a Greek Twist

  • Save

During another visit, we found Coffee Berry, a cozy spot further north in Nafplio New Town.

This café quickly became our go-to for a fresh cup of coffee and a quick snack. We even tried Greek coffee—though it’s definitely an acquired taste!

With its small interior space and lovely patio, Coffee Berry is perfect for a relaxing break as you explore the town.

5. Kosmos Bakery: A Delightful Bakery Tour

  • Save

No trip to Nafplio would be complete without indulging in some sweet treats, right?

We were on the hunt for the best bakeries in town, and we struck gold with Kosmos Bakery.

Known for its traditional, homemade treats, this bakery has everything from fresh bread and sandwiches to pastries, delicious ice cream flavors, and, of course, tasty baklavas. The building itself is a work of art, and we couldn’t resist picking up a few goodies to take back to Canada.

If you’re a fan of baked goods, Kosmos Bakery is a must-visit.

Click here to check Kosmos Bakery’s official website for opening hours and further information.

6. Flour & Sugar Bakery: Small but Mighty

We also discovered Flour & Sugar Bakery, a smaller spot packed with flavor. Their cheese breadsticks and cherry pie were simply divine, making it a perfect stop for a quick snack or a sweet treat. We even went back a couple of times for the cheese breadsticks that we got addicted to!

If you’re exploring Nafplio New Town and have a craving for something delicious, be sure to check out Flour & Sugar Bakery.

7. My Market: Your Go-To Supermarket in Nafplio New Town

As we continued our exploration, we needed to stock up on some essentials. Our go-to supermarket became My Market, conveniently located on the way back to our base in Tolo Beach.

With a large parking lot and a wide selection of items, it was perfect for all our needs.

Whether you’re picking up groceries for your stay or just grabbing a few snacks, My Market has everything you need.

8. Vasilopoulos: A Unique Shopping Experience

But the shopping didn’t stop there! We also checked out Vasilopoulos, a supermarket on the edge of Old Nafplio.

Although parking is a bit trickier, the unique items and impressive wine selection made it worth the visit. Oh, and did we mention that we bought an extra suitcase because we went over our baggage weight?

Yep, that happened! But it was cheaper than paying for overweight luggage, so no regrets here. If you’re looking for a supermarket with a twist, Vasilopoulos is the place to go.

9. Paper Clip Book and Paper Store

  • Save

Nafplio also has lots of stores in the New Town and the historic town, which is more touristic.

However, one store that I (Eli) loved was the Paper Clip Book and Paper Store, located at Leof. Asklipiou 9, Nafplio 211 00, Greece.

I spent a good hour there checking out the books, which were really cute, though they were all in Greek. They also had lots of paper items, such as really cute birthday and celebration cards that I just loved. I even bought a couple since they had unique designs.

If you’re a paper lover like me and want to stop by, I’m sure you’ll love this store!

10. Uncovering Nafplio New Town’s Hidden Gems: Kolokotronis Park

  • Save

While exploring, we came across a beautiful public park called Kolokotronis Park.

Located on the edge of Nafplio’s Historical Center, which we will discuss in a new blog, this quiet spot is a local favorite, featuring statues, monuments, a children’s playground, and even a fitness area.

It’s the perfect place to unwind and soak in the atmosphere of this charming town, with amazing views of the Fortress of Palamidi.

You will also find restaurants, cafes, stores, and other commercial establishments around.

As we already mentioned in our Tolo’s Beach blog, we want to highlight that there are a few tolls to pay on the way from Athens to Nafplio as well.

While we don’t remember the exact amount we spent, we found a site called Toll Guru Greece, which can help you calculate the toll costs. We’re not sure how accurate this site is, but it might help you plan how much you’ll need in euros if you prefer to pay in cash, as we did.

Where to Stay in Nafplio, Greece

At Discovering Destinations, we stayed at Tolo Beach for 25 days, which allowed us to visit Nafplio multiple times since it’s just a 17-minute drive from Tolo Beach.

When it comes to accommodations, Nafplio offers a variety of options to suit every budget and preference. Whether you’re looking for a charming boutique hotel or a budget-friendly stay, you’ll find plenty of choices in and around the town.

Here are two hotels we found in the city that we loved for their locations and great reviews on Google. We highly recommend them and are even considering them for our next trip to Nafplio, Greece.

Nafsimedon Hotel – Nafplio, Greece

Our first suggestion is the Nafsimedon Hotel, perfectly located in front of the beautiful Kolokotronis Park and offering stunning views of the Fortress of Palamidi.

It’s just a short walking distance from both Nafplio’s New Town and its historic site, making it easy to explore both sides of Nafplio.

This is definitely a top choice for our return to Nafplio. We were so impressed by its beauty that we took many pictures of the hotel, an authentic 19th-century neoclassical mansion that has been renovated to offer a unique experience reminiscent of the historical past of Greece’s first capital.

You’ll be pleasantly surprised to find that the price is very reasonable, at least as of August 2024.

For more information about Nafsimedon Hotel, you can visit Hotels.com.

Silo Luxury Rooms – Nafplio, Greece

If you prefer a more luxurious experience and wish to stay closer to Nafplio’s historic area, consider the Silo Luxury Rooms. This hotel is situated on a quiet street just steps away from all the activities of Old Town Nafplio.

We snapped some photos when passing by and, after doing some research, we were impressed. You’ll enjoy gorgeous views of the Bourtzi Fortress and the Aegean Sea, offering a perfect balance between exploring the surrounding beauty and enjoying the peace, comfort, and charm of the rooms.

The building, which dates back to the early 19th century, is a historical representation of Nafplio’s neoclassical architecture. In 2021, it was fully refurbished by the owner Stelios Maragos and his family, using high-quality natural materials to maintain its historical charm while bringing it into the 21st century.

It’s incredible to think that for the same price as a standard, unremarkable hotel in Canada, you can stay in this amazing location in the heart of Nafplio’s Old Town, which is also within a 20-minute walk to Nafplio’s New Town.

For more information about Silo Luxury Rooms, you can visit Hotels.com.
