Taking the Metro to Quartier Latin – Montreal
If you’re not staying nearby, taking the metro is the most convenient way to reach Montreal’s Quartier Latin.
The main station is Berri-UQAM, which offers several exits. To start your tour of Quartier Latin right away, look for the exit (Sortie in French) to “Saint Denis Street” or follow signs for “Quartier des Spectacles.”

Bixi, a popular bike-sharing service in Montreal, allows you to rent bikes at various locations across the city.
It’s very convenient, as there are numerous Bixi stations around Quartier Latin where you can easily drop off your rented bike.
According Bixi oficial website, the BIXI network has more than 11,000 bikes (including 2,600 electric BIXIs) and more than 900 stations spread out across the areas of Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, Boucherville, Terrebonne, Sainte-Julie, Westmount, Ville Mont-Royal and Montréal-Est.

Using Your Own Bike:
You can also reach Montreal’s Quartier Latin by bike, of course. As previously mentioned, the bike paths around this area are quite good. However, we’d like to share some important tips for those new to the city or planning to borrow a friend’s bike for the trip.
Please keep in mind that finding a safe place to park your bike in Montreal’s Quartier Latin can be challenging, as it’s located in one of the busiest parts of the city. Additionally, as with any large city, bike theft is unfortunately common in Montreal. We know several close friends who have had their bikes stolen in the area, including Serge, who had his bike stolen from our own condo garage.
With that in mind, take precautions such as using a strong lock, and consider using public transportation instead, so you can enjoy your visit stress-free.

Another fun option is to book a bike tour of Montreal’s Quartier Latin. If you’re visiting Montreal for the first time, you’ll find many guided tours available, especially during the summer.

Driving to Quartier Latin – Montreal
While driving might seem convenient, keep in mind that Quartier Latin is located in the heart of downtown Montreal, which means you could encounter heavy traffic, road constructions, and street closures, especially around Saint Denis and Sainte Catherine (The Village Montreal) streets during the summer.
If you plan to drive, it’s wise to find a parking spot in advance and save the location on Google Maps.
We recommend Stationnement UQAM at 355 Rue Christin or UQAM parking at 1435 Rue Sanguinet, both just a few steps from Quartier Latin.
Bus to Quartier Latin – Montreal:
If you’re visiting Montreal for the first time and staying in or exploring the Old Port, and you’d like to visit the Quartier Latin, you can take bus 715. This bus departs from the ‘De la Commune / Jacques-Cartier‘ square and will drop you off at the Berri-UQAM metro station.
From there, you can easily walk into the Quartier Latin. It’s a great option if you prefer not to use the metro, as the bus route takes you through the heart of the Old Port and offers a scenic view of the city on the way to the Berri street.
